- 4" blossoms of seldom-seen green change color with the seasons: Short, lime-green petals open in midsummer with a hint of reddish purple at the base. As summer wanes and the blooms mature, petals elongate and the reddish purple spreads over them for a total color change. The showy cones change from bright green to dark purple.
