How to use the Dutch Gardens Search Tool

Keyword Search

If you want to search our website and don’t have an item number, just type in a descriptive keyword or two into the search field located in the top navigation on every page and click “go”. You will be presented with all the relevant products and articles that match your search term. If there are both products and articles that match your search, you’ll first be take to the product “tab”. If you’re looking for articles or information, simply click on the articles “tab” to see those results. If there is only one product or article that match your search term, you will be taken right to the product detail page or article

The search result will display up to 12 items per page, with an easy-to-use toolbar that allows you to move from page to page or to jump multiple pages at once.

Choosing Keywords

Our search tool looks for an exact match based on the keywords you enter, so don’t use a sentence format. Rather, be as succinct as possible. It is usually better to start with a broad search term like “Peony” to see all possible options. You can then either refine your search by using the “Refine Your Results” tool or by typing in a more specific keyword string such as “Double Peony”. Be sure to check your spelling.

Do not use “And” or “Or” commands to combine keywords. This will not result in a successful search.

If we do not have any relevant results for a keyword search, you will be prompted to try again. Check your spelling, or try another logical keyword to get the desired results.

Capitalization

Our search function is not case-sensitive. You can use all capital letters, all lowercase, or a combination and get successful results.

Refining Your Search

If you want to refine your keyword results there are a couple options. The first option is simply to enter in a new, more specific search term.

The second option is to follow the direction in the “Refine Your Results” tool that will run to the left of your search results. This super-simple tool lets you refine your search results by various plant attributes including:

Color
Growing Zone
Height
Light Requirement
Season of Bloom
Special Attributes (fragrant, deer resistant, drought-tolerant or good for cutting).

You can select multiple attributes and then simply hit the “Refine” button. If your results are then too narrow, try starting with just one or two attributes first.

If you want to use the Refine Your Results tool to refine within all products on our, click on the Plant Finder link on the top of every page on this site and then use the tool. Similarly, you can use the Refine Your Results tool to refine within either “Spring-Planted Flowers”, “Fall-Planted Flowers” or “Specialty Shop” by first clicking on those tabs at the top of any web site page and then using the tool.

Catalog Quick Order

If you have a catalog item number and are ready to make a purchase, you can enter that item number into our Catalog Quick Order tool. The link to Catalog Quick Order is also in the top navigation of every page on the site. You can order multiple items via Catalog Quick Order, placing them directly in your basket and bypassing the product detail page.
