What Sets Our Roses Apart from the Rest

Dream Come True Rose
Dream Come True Rose

We ship only the highest-grade roses: USDA No. 1-certified, bareroot, field-grown plants. All of our roses are grafted. Many rose varieties do not grow vigorously on their own roots. Rootstocks help the plants absorb water and nutrients more efficiently, especially during the first few growing seasons. The most common rose rootstock in the U.S. is called 'Dr. Huey' and this is the one our supplier uses. Our roses have three or more heavy, strong canes with a caliper of 7 mm or more above the bud union, or branched not higher than 10 cm above the bud union. The bud union is the place where the named variety is joined to the rootstock.

Here are some more things to know about Dutch Gardens roses:

  • Because bareroot roses arrive in a dormant state with no foliage, they can be planted earlier than potted roses. This gives them a head start in the first year.
  • Bareroot roses adapt gradually to the soil in your garden, without transplant trauma. They emerge from dormancy and begin growth at a natural pace.
  • Dutch Gardens roses have stout canes that generate robust growth, which means more buds and flowers.
  • Our roses are given more elbow room in the growing field than any other roses on the market, which means you get a bigger plant. We give them time, too. All are at least two years old, so you get a husky, sturdy plant.
  • The well-developed root systems are guaranteed to be virus-free and ready to grow vigorously in your garden.
