Dahlias
Make a statement in the garden and the vase with dahlias! Native to Mexico and Central America, these popular flowers are available in an array of colors and flower forms. Choose from giant dinnerplate dahlias, ball dahlias, decorative dahlias and more. Dahlias grow best when planted in a sunny location and in well-drained soil. Some of the larger dahlias, such as dinnerplate dahlias, should be staked or grown with some other support. Dahlias bloom from midsummer to frost—and they often make long-lasting, showy cut flowers. Because they are tender perennials, they can either be grown as annuals in zones 3-8 or the dahlia tubers can be dug up in the fall.
