Bulbs
Growing flowers from bulbs, tubers and corms is so easy and rewarding. Some flower bulbs, like tulips, daffodils, crocus and hyacinths, are planted in the fall and bloom in the spring. Other bulbs, including tender bulbs, are planted in the spring and bloom in the summer and into fall. Popular spring-planted bulbs include gladiolus, dahlias and calla lilies. Flower bulbs perform best when they are planted in well-drained soil. You can improve your soil's drainage by mixing compost into the soil. Many flower bulbs, like daffodils and tulips, look best when planted in groups. When selecting flower bulbs to buy, check to see if they are suitable for your grow zone. Other factors to consider are their height and spread, sunlight requirements, bloom time and color.
