Groundcovers
The best ground covers add beauty to the garden—and choke out weeds and cover bare spots. Perennial ground covers are usually lower-growing, easy-care plants. Some, like hostas, may be grown primarily for their lush foliage while others, like Lily of the Valley, are flowering groundcover plants. Once groundcover plants are established, they suppress weeds, so you spend less time weeding. Many gardeners plant ground covers in challenging areas of the garden and landscape, such as under trees, on slopes and between rocks. When buying ground-covering perennials for sale at Dutch Gardens, make sure the plants are suitable for your hardiness zone. Other factors to consider are their light and soil requirements, water needs, mature height and spread, and flowering time (if applicable).
